Message from the Chairman:

Dear Parents

As Chairman of Oswestry Olympians, I'm contacting you to let you know that the club is nominating Tracy for "Sports Coach of the Year" award which is one of the Sports    Awards for 2015 organised by the Oswestry and District Sports Council. I've spoken to Tracy so she knows she's being nominated!

It would help strengthen our nomination if parents could write/email a message of      support, perhaps with some details about the impact she has had on your child's development. You can email me direct on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or drop me a        line at The Malthouse, Llandrinio,Powys SY22 6SG.

Many thanks

Feedback from meeting

Thank you to all the parents who attended the meeting at the Marches Sportshall. We have recruited co-ordinators   for the Cross Country and Sportshall leagues and now need volunteers for the following roles:

Juniors Membership Secretary – emailing athletes with annual membership/renewal forms, collating information  and updating membership details onto database.

Juniors Press Secretary- writing reports/photos of events, liaising with local press. Using local media to circulate information on future events.

Juniors Administrator - writing the newsletter, updating the club website. Collating information and liaising with team managers and league organisers.

Track and Field League Co-ordinator – liaise with SYAL league organisers, book facilities, arrange first aid, do risk assessment, organise refreshments, compile results.

Team Managers - working with Juniors Administrator re events. Liaising with coaches/athletes/parents and selecting teams on the day.

Team Officials - Liaising with league co-ordinators to be responsible for particular events at club competitions. Collect results sheets and return to organisers.

Please come and have a chat with me or give me a ring if you feel you can help. I will be available over the next few months to assist and support people taking on these roles and will remain as Head Coach. The roles can be amalgamated or shared as needed. Let’s hope that between us we can work together to maintain the club's high standards and continued development.

help needed!!!

Written by

Helpers needed to promote the club at the Oswestry Community Games in Cae Glas Park on Sunday 21st September. We need volunteers to talk to prospective junior athletes about Oswestry Olympians and how much you/your children enjoy it!
Only 1 hour of your time is required between 12-4pm. Please let me know if you are available to help.

This date clashes with the cross country league meeting at Oswestry School so families involved in XC are off the hook (although we will also need volunteers to serve refreshments and act as marshalls)!!!

          URGENT – HELP NEEDED!!!

Oswestry will be hosting the next SYAL meeting at Shrewsbury on Thursday

26th June. We need as many helpers as possible to ensure the competition runs smoothly. Some of you have indicated on your children’s membership forms which roles you would prefer so please let me know if you can:

Serve refreshments or help with the field events or on the track

Standards Evening

As part of the club track and field awards scheme we offer an evening for athletes to record times and distances towards the five events needed to gain a pentathlon award. Athletes of all ages are welcome from 6-7.30pm on 8th July at Shrewsbury Track where there will be opportunities to record times in 50/75/100/200m and 600/800m, and record distances in long jump, high jump, shot and javelin.

Club Memberships

There are still some outstanding membership forms. Please return to Andrea or myself as soon as possible. If you do not wish to renew your membership you must formally resign from the club in writing.

Parking at the Marches School

A polite reminder that parents should park in the car park at the front of the school and walk up to the sportshall. This is a request from the school.

Please ensure your child has signed the register and paid their fee at every training session they attend. This is a safeguarding issue and a requirement of clubmark.

Volunteer Rota

We need more volunteers to help at training sessions. Some parents have been fantastic at supporting the children and helping to time, measure and record performances. We now need more parents to sign up for the rota system.

This will be continued throughout the winter.
